Writing Headlines

When coming up with a headline, I need to think about:
  • Alliteration
  • Puns – clever word play not corny
  • Descriptive – In a nutshell
  • Oxymoron – words with opposite meanings
  • Addressing the reader/Asking a question
I looked at different newspapers' approach to headlining the same story.

The Guardian.
-basically tells you the gist of the story in one sentence.

The Sun.
-slang language used, informal, gives a short, brief description of article.

The Independent.
-a different approach to informing, using questions & answers, formal.
